Auto-Focusing Normal Incidence Monochromator

McPherson's patented Auto-Focusing Normal Incidence Monochromator (NIM) (Model 225) provides excellent spectral resolution and imaging properties in the Extreme and Vacuum Ultra-Violet. This 1-meter focal length spectrometer is optimized for work from 30 nm to the Visible with selected gratings. The efficient and, for the most part, astigmatic optical design uses a concave diffraction grating. Excellent imaging is attained by using a small diffracted angle. The instrument is suitable for use with charge coupled (CCD) or micro-channel plate (MCP) focal plane array detectors. The auto-focusing wavelength drive provides high resolution over the complete range of operation.

Highest vacuum integrity is maintained with both the high vacuum 10-7 and Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) 10-10 torr version. Multiple grating turrets, multiple port options, spectrograph adapters for CCD and MCP intensifiers and slits adjustable in width and height can all be set while the instrument is evacuated. No more waiting for vacuum pump down between adjustments.

The NIM spectrometer is available in focal lengths from 1-meter up to 6.65-meters. The longest focal lengths are used when the ultimate spectral resolution is required. Resolving powers of up to 100,000 at 45 nm are attained! An off-plane Eagle version of the NIM completely eliminates astigmatism and is available in the long focal lengths—greater than 3-meters.
