Vacuum Ultraviolet Spectral Resolution Among the Best in the World
with McPherson Built Spherical Grating Monochromator (SGM)
A new McPherson Spherical Grating Monochromator beamline purchased by the Canadian Synchrotron Radiation Facility (CSRF) for installation at the University of Wisconsin Synchrotron Radiation Center achieved better than expected results. At the Nitrogen K-edge (~402eV or ~3.1nm) the McPherson soft x-ray beamline monochromator exhibited 10,000 resolving power. This is an extremely high performance accomplished on a bend magnet port and with full grating illumination. Results indicate that in this energy region the ultra high vacuum McPherson spherical grating monochromator is among the best in the world.
